Darkthrone - The masters of unholy black metal have come up with a fantastic album here. It seems to me that they have pulled out all the stoppers and released an absolute classic. There is not much to say about this album really, other than it is a masterpiece - easily Darkthrone's best up to now. The haunting intro by Fenriz really sets the scene for 6 tracks of Darkthrone at their evil best. I particularly enjoyed track 2 - solid Norwegian Black Metal as it should be played. This is a must buy for any serious follower of Black Metal, and it is also a tribute to the work of Euronymous, so buy it and show your support. Brilliant!

The legendary Dark Throne released this album in 1996 and the production is typical of Darkthrone. To be honest, it could be better, but it will do. However, Fenriz's drumming is hardly audible unless you whack up the volume. However, this aside, Dark Throne have a good album, with a variety of guests providing the lyrics, such as Satyr (no surprise), and Ihsahn. This is a good album but it is not as good as the early albums. My advice to you would be, if you haven't heard Darkthrone before (if so then why not?), buy the amazing 'A Blaze In The Northern Sky' (see above) and take it from there. Don't get me wrong, Darkthrone are, and always will be, legends, but there is something lacking in this album.
